The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE will represent the fifth production year of the current generation and that’s a perfect time for updates. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the German carmaker is already working on some changes. We are about to see a typical mid-cycle refresh, which will bring novelties in various aspects. Of course, the focus will be on aesthetics, but we might see some modifications on the inside as well. On the other hand, we don’t expect to see any mechanical changes.
With the updated styling and interior, the next year’s model should become even more competitive in this super-fierce segment. Still, the overall layout won’t change and the updated model will retain its main qualities. This SUV has so many great things to offer, starting from excellent ride quality, luxurious interior, lots of standard equipment, capable powertrain etc.
Considering the update, we presume that the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE will arrive a little bit earlier than usual, though still within the second half of 2023.
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE Will Get Mid-Cycle Refresh
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh. As you may presume, the focus of this update will be on aesthetics. We’ve already spotted the test model and it’s easy to see that there isn’t much camouflage. There are just a few areas covered, which clearly indicates nothing more than subtle changes. We expect to see the most changes to the front end, where the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE could come with revised headlights, novelties on the front fascia, revised bumper etc. The rear end may come with a few changes as well, though minor ones, we believe.
On the other hand, the chassis and suspension setup, as well as other mechanical components, are likely to remain the same. Therefore, you may count on the same air suspension, which provides a butter-smooth ride and super-high level of comfort, without sacrificing the driving experience.
Although mid-cycle updates are mostly about exterior styling updates, we might see some changes on the inside as well. At this point, we still don’t know the details but it looks like the new GLE could come with a new steering wheel. Furthermore, the infotainment system should be updated, though we expect to see the same 12.3-inch screen, along with the 12.3-inch instrument cluster. Of course, minor updates like new color schemes and materials are always possible.
On the other hand, the overall cabin layout will remain the same. Base models will continue with two rows of seats, while the third row will remain an option. The front seats are massive and supportive, with plenty of space. The second row is as spacious and comfortable, while the third row, on the other hand, is tight and works for kids only.
We presume that the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE could come with some novelties regarding standard equipment. However, if we consider that the current model is already generous in this aspect, the changes probably won’t be significant.
For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-inch touch screen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, ”Hey Mercedes” virtual assistant, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, wireless device charging, Bluetooth, five USB ports, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, and ambient lighting.
The list of options currently includes things like 13- and 25-speaker Burmester sound systems, two additional USB ports, power soft-closing doors, four-zone automatic climate control, a cabin air fragrance system, a panoramic sunroof, and rear sunshades. We presume some of these may become standard in the 2024 GLE.
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE Engine
We don’t expect to see changes under the hood. Therefore, base models will continue with a small but efficient 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 255 horsepower. This engine offers decent driving dynamics, in a combination with good fuel economy, which goes around 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
The optional turbo inline-six with 362 horsepower is our top pick. It offers notably better dynamics, it is incredibly smooth, and also quite efficient. With this engine, you may count on about 21 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The inline-six is also available in a variant with an additional supercharger, in which case the max output goes up to 429 horsepower. Finally, there is the GLE 580, equipped with a twin-turbo V8 engine, which puts out 483 horsepower.
All engines come in pair with a smooth-shifting 9-speed automatic transmission.
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE Release Date and Price
We expect that the updated 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE will hit the market sometime in the second half of the next year, with a starting price of around 57.000 dollars. Models like BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90 will remain key competitors.
