The current generation of Toyota’s biggest crossover has been around since 2020 and the Japanese manufacturer brings a couple of updates. These updates are mostly about new tech features, as there are new infotainment and instrument cluster screens. Other than that, things will continue pretty much in the same way, though we should also mention that the standard, gasoline-powered model has replaced the good-old V6 with a turbo-four. Still, we will focus on the hybrid version in this article.

Thanks to these minor updates, the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid will probably become even more desirable. Still, most things in the popular mid-size SUV will remain unchanged. We are about to see a familiar layout, which offers so many great things. The Highlander is efficient and quite comfortable. Furthermore, we like its long list of standard and available equipment, along with good interior quality.

Despite the novelties, the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid will arrive much earlier than usual. We expect to see it later this summer.

2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Design

Design-wise, the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid will continue in the same way. This generation has been around since 2020, so the vehicle still looks pretty fresh and competitive. The styling is relatively conservative but it looks stylish enough to attract a wide range of buyers.

More importantly, the vehicle offers a good chassis and suspension setup. It may not be the most athletic SUV in the class, but the ride is comfortable and refined. Of course, the Highlander rides on the company’s new TNGA platform, which utilizes lightweight materials and makes the car notably lighter than the previous generation.

As we already mentioned, the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid won’t bring bigger changes, but we won’t exclude the possibility to see minor updates, such as new color options and similar things.

Interior

On the inside, the biggest novelties are new screens, which will be available in higher trim levels. Other than that, things will remain pretty much the same. Therefore, you may count on a cabin that features nice materials and very good interior quality. There is a lot of attention to detail, while the sound insulation is pretty good as well.

2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Interior

The front seats are massive and supportive, with plenty of room. They accommodate adults with ease, while we could say the same for the second row as well. There, three adult passengers can fit pretty comfortably, while you also have a choice to replace the second-row bench with captain’s chairs. Finally, the third row isn’t all that generous. It is tight and works best for small kids.

The cargo area offers typical ratings for the segment. You may count on about16 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 48.4 cubic feet behind the second row, and 84.3 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded down.

Features

As we’ve just mentioned, this is the aspect that brings the biggest novelties. The 2023 Highlander Hybrid comes with new, pretty massive screens. First of all, there is the new 12.3-inch infotainment screen, which will be standard in all but the base LE trim. That model will continue with the old 8-inch unit. The new infotainment screen offers new graphics, crisper resolution, and the option to use voice commands

A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster will come as well, but it will be a little bit more exclusive. It will be available in Limited and Platinum trim levels, and it will be highly customizable, with four different themes. Cheaper models will continue with a 7-inch unit.

Another notable novelty will be the new 12-speaker, 1,200-watt JBL sound system, which will be standard in Limited, Bronze Edition and Platinum trim levels.

2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Powertrain

Things under the hood will remain the same. The Highlander will continue with the system that combines a 2.5-liter inline-four with a couple of electric motors, for a total output of 243 horsepower. That’s plenty enough to ensure good driving dynamics, even though the system comes paired with a CVT.

Still, the biggest strength of this model is excellent fuel economy, which goes around 36 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, which is amazing for an SUV of this size and weight. When equipped properly, this model can tow up to 5.000 pounds, which is typical for the class.
