The last year’s update has brought several novelties, which will keep this full-size SUV competitive in the next couple of years, even though the competition is now much younger. The Expedition received styling updates, as well as some pretty important tech upgrades, so we are pretty sure that the 2023 Ford Expedition will come without more important updates. Of course, we won’t exclude the possibility to see minor updates, such as new color options or additions to the list of standard equipment.
In any case, the overall layout will remain the same. The Expedition will continue to offer a lot of good things. We like its capable and efficient V6 engine, as well as the excellent max towing capacity. Furthermore, the Expedition is spacious and comfortable, while the new infotainment system works great. Among things we don’t like – some cabin areas are wrapped with cheap plastics, while the ride can be stiff in certain situations.
As there are no bigger changes to come, we expect that the 2023 Ford Expedition will hit the market sometime late in the year.
2023 Ford Expedition Design
In terms of the base design, the 2023 Ford Expedition definitely won’t change. We might see minor updates like new color options but the overall layout will remain the same. The SUV was updated last year, with new headlights, a revised grille and other styling novelties. Therefore, we expect that the model will remain in its current form for the next couple of years. The mechanical aspect of the SUV remained the same, so you may count on the same ride quality. This SUV is easy to drive, despite the size. On the other hand, the ride can be too stiff in certain situations.
Last year, the company also introduced the new Timberline trim, which comes with a couple of off-road bits. Some of the highlights are features like standard four-wheel drive, heavy-duty skid plates, an electronic limited-slip differential, a two-speed transfer case, 32-inch all-terrain tires, and an upgraded suspension.
The inside of the 2023 Ford Expedition won’t change either. So, you may count on a dashboard that looks attractive and which is now highlighted with a massive infotainment screen and other tech goodies. Most of the cabin is covered with quality materials, though there are few areas wrapped with plastics and other low-rent materials.
Still, we don’t believe that these “quality issues” will bother potential buyers. Simply, buyers of this SUV look for excellent hauling capabilities and this is where the Expedition really shines. Three rows of seats are standard and capacity for eight passengers. Even the third row is extremely generous with space. Considering that it offers over 36 inches of legroom, it’s easy to conclude that adults can fit there with ease.
The cargo area is also pretty good, though not as impressive as the passenger room. You may count up to 20.9 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 63.6 cubic feet behind the second row and 104.6 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. Those are great ratings but rivals like Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon offer even more cargo room.
We don’t expect to see bigger changes in this aspect. Therefore, all models should come standard with goodies like tri-zone climate control, remote start, a 12-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hot spot, four USB ports, and a six-speaker audio system.
Among options, expect to find things like a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.5-inch touch screen, navigation, wireless device charging, HD Radio, satellite radio, a 12- or 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, additional USB ports, proximity keyless entry, hands-free power tailgate etc.
2023 Ford Expedition Engine
Things under the hood will carry on in the same way. So, you may count on a familiar 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, which comes in a few variants, with the max output between 380 and 440 horsepower, as well as 470 and 510 pound-feet of torque. In any case, driving dynamics are very good and this V6 moves the SUV with ease. Moreover, you may also count on a max towing capacity that goes up to 9.300 pounds, which is among the highest ratings in the class.
The engine comes in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which does a great job too. Base models come with RWD, while AWD is available too. When it comes to fuel economy, the company claims around 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway for RWD models, but real-world ratings are a little bit lower. Of course, AWD models are even thirstier.
2023 Ford Expedition Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 Ford Expedition will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 53.000 dollars.
