Known for the generous amounts of passenger and cargo space, the Expedition Max is still one of the best family haulers on the market. After the recent update, it is even more competitive, which is very important if we consider that the competition is tougher than ever. The current generation has been around since 2018 and we expect it will remain in production for some more time. Therefore, the 2023 Ford Expedition Max shouldn’t bring bigger change.
The next year’s model will continue in the same way, offering familiar design and features. Therefore, you may count on a capable engine, very good towing capacity, spacious cabin, intuitive infotainment system etc. However, this SUV isn’t without drawbacks. There are a few things we don’t like, starting from the stiff ride and lots of plastics in entry-level models.
As there are no significant changes for the next year, we expect that the 2023 Ford Expedition Max will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2023 Ford Expedition Max Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Ford Expedition Max is about to carry on in the same way. Essentially, this is a stretched version of the standard Expedition, designed to compete with models like Chevy Suburban and Yukon XL. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the wheelbase measures 131.6 inches in wheelbase, which provides additional interior space.
From the outside, things look pretty much the same as in the standard model. This includes the last year’s updates as well, which have brought a new front-end design and a more attractive appearance. Mechanically, this SUV benefits from the massive use of lightweight materials, so it’s a little bit lighter compared to similarly-sized competitors. Also, it comes standard with an independent rear suspension, which has a pretty positive impact on the ride quality.
Interior
Of course, the main thing about this SUV is the number of interior changes. With 131.6 inches in wheelbase, there is no doubt that this is a great family hauler. Even the third row is very generous with space, as it offers 36.5 inches of legroom. The second row offers 41 inches of legroom, while the front row goes all-away up to 43.9 inches. As a result, the 2023 Ford Expedition Max will be able to accommodate up to eight adult passengers. The cargo area offers 36 cubic feet behind the third row, 79.6 cubic feet behind the second row and 121.5 cubic feet behind the first row. Those are very good numbers though rivals like Suburban and Yukon XL offer even more.
The overall interior quality is good. However, we don’t like the fact that lower trim levels look too basic. They come with a lot of plastics and other cheap materials, which is a little bit disappointing at this price range.
Features
The 2023 Ford Expedition Max should be a typical carryover model, so we don’t expect bigger changes regarding the standard and available equipment. Base models should come standard with goodies like remote start, tri-zone climate control, a 12-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hot spot, four USB ports, and a six-speaker audio system. Among available features, you can find goodies like a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, proximity keyless entry, a 15.5-inch touch screen, navigation, wireless device charging, HD Radio, satellite radio, a 12- or 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, and additional USB ports.
When it comes to safety features, base models should come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, driver attention monitoring, lane keep assist, automatic high beams etc.
2023 Ford Expedition Max Engines
Under the hood, the 2023 Ford Expedition Max will continue in the same way. You may count on a familiar 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which comes in two output versions. In the standard variant, this engine is good for about 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, which is plenty enough for a convenient ride. The Platinum trim, though, brings a slight power upgrade, where the max output goes up to 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.
In both cases, you may count on a well-working and refined 10-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while you can also get a 4WD layout. The max towing goes up to 9.300 pounds, while the average fuel economy goes around 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.
2023 Ford Expedition Max Release Date and Price
As there are no bigger changes to come, we expect that the 2023 Ford Expedition Max will come in a typical time of the year, sometime in the last quarter of 2022. When it comes to the price, base models should go around 54.000 dollars.
