Mitsubishi’s compact crossover is coming completely redesigned for the next year. We’ve already seen a couple of spy and teaser photos and while the Japanese manufacturer tries to keep most details a secret, we already know some of the key characteristics. The new model will change the platform completely, and it will continue with a variety of powertrain options in the offer. Of course, we have no doubt that the new generation will also offer the third row of seats, which has been the model’s trademark for years.

We expect to see the new model sometime in the second half of next year. Mitsubishi won’t rush with the launch, because there may things to fix if you look at the outgoing model. This particularly refers to things like interior quality, ride quality, engine power etc. Of course, we also count on a completely new styling, though it probably won’t offer radical design changes.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Redesign

One of the first things that come to mind about the new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is the platform. This will be the most significant change in the new model. Mitsubishi is now part of the Renault Nissan Alliance, so it will benefit from sharing parts with two other carmakers. Of course, most of the parts will be shared with the new Rogue, which is also coming all-new. Both models will ride on a new version of a familiar CMF platform. This promises improvements in various aspects, particularly in terms of ride quality, whether it’s about handling or comfort.

When it comes to the exterior design, one of the first things that come to mind is size. The current model measures 105.1 inches in wheelbase and the new model will definitely add few more inches between the axles. For comparison, the outgoing Rogue is good for about 106.5 inches and it will get bigger as well. We presume that both new models will be good for about 107 inches. This will bring all kinds of benefits, especially on the inside, where we count on more legroom for the passengers.

When it comes to the styling, we don’t expect that Mitsubishi will come up with something radical. Instead, we will rather see an evolution of Mitsubishi’s familiar design language, called Dynamic Shield, so the new generation should feature a face similar to models like Eclipse cross, which looks quite bold and aggressive. Of course, there is always room for some exclusive details, so we might see some tweaks to the grille, lighting groups etc. On the other side, the overall shape will remain quite similar. Simply, count on a typical SUV shape, with lots of straight lines and rectangular shapes that will ensure typical SUV practicality on the inside.

One of the biggest complaints about the current model goes for interior quality. It’s not that bad but if you look at much younger competition, it definitely needs improvements. This particularly refers to aesthetics, considering that the current model hasn’t changed too much for these eight years of production and eight years is way too long for the industry’s most competitive segment. Therefore, we count on significant improvements in the new model. This means modern aesthetics, much finer materials and better overall build quality. Also, we count on loads of latest tech goodies, including a completely new infotainment screen.

When it comes to seating configurations, the third row will certainly remain in the offer. Of course, the longer wheelbase will certainly bring improvements in terms of legroom, considering that the current third row offers just around 28 inches of legroom and isn’t particularly functional. The same thing goes for the cargo area, which should offer more cubic feet, both behind the third row and with all seats folded own.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Engines

Given the new platform, it’s no wonder that most of us expect to see new engine options. This particularly refers to the base gasoline version, which will now use Nissan’s familiar 2.5-liter inline-four, just like the Rogue. In the outgoing model, it puts out around 180 horsepower but we count on some power increase in the new models. The engine comes in pair with a CVT gearbox.

Withough any doubt, the new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander will continue with its excellent PHEV system. The current version delivers around 200 horsepower and offers some of the lowest emission ratings on the market. We expect further improvements and the new generation will probably offer better economy and ranger, faster charging and similar things.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Release Date and Price

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is expected to arrive sometime in the second half of the next year. Base models will probably go around 25-26.000 dollars. Some of the key players in the segment are models like Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, VW Tiguan etc.
