The Korean manufacturer amazed the automotive world with the last year’s launch of its biggest SUV. The Palisade came as an excellent alternative to luxury SUVs, with the mainstream price. After excellent reception, the second production year has brought another big novelty, in the form of the new hi-end version called Calligraphy. That’s why we are pretty sure that the company will slow down a little bit and that the 2022 Hyundai Palisade won’t feature significant updates.
This means you may count on a familiar design, which offers a fantastic balance between price and quality. This is a luxury SUV in many aspects and we particularly like the interior quality and a long list of standard and available features. The styling may be a dividing point but no one can deny it looks really premium. Finally, there is a pretty capable V6 engine, coupled with the smooth and precise transmission. Since no bigger changes are expected, we presume that the launch date will be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.
2022 Hyundai Palisade Design
The overall design definitely won’t change and we are pretty sure that the 2022 Hyundai Palisade will continue in the same way in every aspect. Mechanically, we definitely won’t see any revision, considering that the current model stands pretty well in this aspect. The ride quality is very good, especially if you prefer comfort over engaging handling. Also, this is the biggest Hyundai ever made, and you will definitely benefit a lot from its 114.2-inch wheelbase. We will get to this aspect in a minute.
In terms of aesthetics, we won’t see changes either. The SUV looks great and while it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s hard to deny its luxury presence. This refers to all versions, but particularly to the recently-introduced Calligraphy model. This one comes with a plethora of exclusive styling details, such as unique exterior lighting elements, boldly-designed 20-inch wheels, a distinct grille finish etc.
The cabin of this SUV is impressive in every aspect. As we’ve just mentioned, this SUV features 114.2 inches in wheelbase. So, it’s no wonder that there is plenty of space for both passengers and cargo. Of course, three rows of seats are standard and an important thing to mention is that the third row also comes with three seats, which makes the Palisade one of the rare 8-seaters among mid-size SUVs. All three rows are comfortable and adult-friendly in terms of space but we particularly like the first row, which offers incredible 44.1 inches of legroom.
The cargo area is as impressive. You may count on about 18 cubic feet of cargo space behind its third-row seats, 45.8 cubic feet with these seats folded, and 86.4 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded. That is above-average for the class.
Another thing that is above-average for the class is interior quality. The dashboard looks particularly fantastic but the whole cabin is actually made of premium materials with great precision. From this standpoint, the Palisade is a premium SUV without any doubt.
Novelties in this aspect are always possible with yearly updates but we don’t expect too much from the 2022 Hyundai Palisade. Most of the things should remain the same as in the current model, which comes standard with an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, Bluetooth, five USB ports, keyless entry etc.
The list of options currently includes things like a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, ambient interior lighting, hands-free power liftgate, 10.2-inch touch screen, navigation, satellite radio, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, two additional USB ports, wireless device charging etc. We presume some of these could become standard in the 2022 Hyundai Palisade.
2022 Hyundai Palisade Engine
This aspect won’t bring changes either, despite that some rumors suggest the possibility of a hybrid version. We presume such a variant won’t come before the mid-cycle update. So, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade will continue with just one engine in the offer.
That would be a large and capable 3.8-liter V6, which puts out around 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. It comes in pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which does a very good job. The overall impression of the powertrain is great. Everything feels refined, even under heavy throttle.
The only drawback of this engine is fuel economy, which isn’t particularly impressive when compared to rivals like Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander. You may count on 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. That is slightly below-average for the segment.
2022 Hyundai Palisade Release Date and Price
Since there are no bigger changes to come for the next year, we presume that the launch date will be scheduled for the end of the year. The 2022 Hyundai Palisade should also keep pretty much the same price, which currently starts at around 33.000 dollars.
