The well-known crossover has been a household name in the compact segment for decades and the current generation confidently holds one of the leading positions, even though it’s been around for a while. According to the latest reports, the full redesign will come with the 2023 model, which clearly indicates that the 2022 Honda CR-V will come without more important changes.

This means you may count on a familiar layout, which still has so many great things to offer, despite the age. We like the model’s spacious cabin and generous cargo area, as well as excellent sound insulation. Furthermore, the overall build quality is pretty impressive, while fuel economy is also very good. On the other hand, the biggest complaint goes to the shortlist of standard equipment in the base version. Other trim levels are equipped properly.

As the 2022 Honda CR-V is about to bring no changes, we presume that the launch date will be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.

2022 Honda CR-V Design

Design-wise, the 2022 Honda CR-V definitely won’t change. The current generation has been around since 2016 and it shares most of its parts with the 10-th generation Civic. This includes the suspension setup, including the rear independent on the rear end, which offers a pretty impressive level of comfort, in a combination with precise steering and minimal body roll.

Besides the good overall ride quality, this crossover also offers a pretty attractive look. Even though some rivals are younger and look fancier, the CR-V still feels fresh enough to compete. Moreover, its relatively neutral styling approach makes it appealing to a wide range of potential buyers.

For the next year, we don’t expect to see any notable updates.

Interior

The cabin of this excellent crossover has always been its strongest point. Simply, there aren’t many models in the class that offer more passenger space, especially in the second row of seats. While the front seats are massive and supportive and characterized by excellent driving positions, the thing we like about the second row is that there is almost no center tunnel, even in AWD models. This means that three adult persons can find this row of seats quite comfortably. The cargo area is also pretty impressive. You may count on about 39.2 cubic feet behind the second row and 75.8 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.

Unfortunately, three-row versions will remain reserved for certain markets only. We expect that such a version will come to North America after the redesign.

Besides plenty of space, this cabin offers excellent build quality. The materials are nice, while the fit and finish are excellent. Furthermore, we like the sound insulation, which is still one of the best in the class.

Features

The 2022 Honda CR-V will continue with a familiar list of standard and available equipment. As we already mentioned, a relatively modest list of standard features in base models is one of the main drawbacks of this crossover. Base models come with a 5-inch display, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, automatic climate control, and a USB port. Fortunately, there are many more things to get in higher trims. Some of the highlights are goodies like a 7-inch touch- screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, an additional front USB port, two rear USB ports, an eight-speaker stereo, wireless device charging, navigation, a nine-speaker premium stereo, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, remote start, proximity keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, and interior ambient lighting.

When it comes to safety, all models will come standard with forwarding collision warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera. The CR-V is available with front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

2022 Honda CR-V Engines

This aspect won’t bring changes either, so base models will continue with a familiar 1.5-liter turbo-four. This engine puts out around 190 horsepower and comes in pair with a CVT gearbox. The engine feels pretty lively and offers solid acceleration and overall dynamics. At this same time, fuel economy is pretty impressive. You may count on about 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

The hybrid model uses a 2.0-liter inline-four engine in a combination with two electric motors. The total output goes around 212 horsepower, while the average fuel economy goes around 35 mpg on the highway and 40 mpg in the city.

2022 Honda CR-V Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2022 Honda CR-V will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 27.000 dollars, 32.000 for the hybrid. Key competitors are models like Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, VW Tiguan etc.
