After the last year’s full redesign, we expect that GMC’s flagship SUV will come without more important changes. This refers to the long-wheelbase version too, which will come as the 2022 GMC Yukon XL and which will continue to deliver impressive amounts on interior space. Still, a large cabin isn’t the only strong point – this SUV has a lot more to show.
The next year’s model will continue in the same way, offering a lot of good things. We already mentioned the large cabin, which offers plenty of passenger space and an even more impressive cargo area. Furthermore, we like the wide engine choice, which includes two gasoline and one diesel option. Finally, there is a pretty wide range of versions on the offer, including the well-known Denali trim, which comes with lots of unique features.
As there are no significant updates to come, we are pretty sure that the 2022 GMC Yukon XL will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2022 GMC Yukon XL Design
As we are talking about the second production year, it’s hard to expect any notable updates. The 2022 GMC Yukon XL will continue in the same way, with the design that’s based on the company’s new T1 platform, which made this model lighter and more efficient. Also, the ride quality is way better than before, mainly because of the independent rear suspension, which is standard in all versions.
The new generation is also notably bigger. It features 134.1 inches in wheelbase, while the total length goes up to 225.2 inches. The styling is also more mature, while the famous Denali trim once again continues with lots of exclusive details, such as unique grille, wheels and lots of chrome details. There is also the off-road-focused model called AT4, which comes with a standard four-wheel-drive, two-speed transfer case, skid plates, and hill descent control.
Interior
The same thing goes for interior design. This SUV features one of the nicest cabins in the class, characterized by attractive aesthetics, soft-touch materials and high overall build quality. For the first time, the dash looks different, depending on which version you choose. The biggest difference is in the center stack, which features a tablet-like touchscreen in most models. On the other hand, the Denali model comes with a more upscale infotainment screen design, different air vents, steering wheel etc.
Of course, the amount of passenger and cargo space remains the strongest point of this SUV. You may count on three very generous rows of seats and seating capacity for eight. All three rows accommodate adult passengers with ease, including the third one. The cargo area is the biggest in class (along with Suburban). You may count on 25.5 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seats, 72.6 cubic feet behind the second row and 122.9 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.
Features
Even the most basic versions come with a pretty decent list of standard equipment. You may count on goodies like tri-zone climate control, remote start, a 10.2-inch touch screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six speakers, satellite radio, HD Radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, six USB ports, and Bluetooth. In higher trim levels, you can also get goodies like a panoramic sunroof, power-sliding center console, navigation and a rear-seat entertainment system.
In terms of safety features, you may count on a lot of standard equipment too. All models will come standard with a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, front and rear parking sensors etc. Additionally, you can get upgrades like head-up display, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, rear pedestrian alert, surround-view camera etc.
2022 GMC Yukon XL Engines
The 2022 GMC Yukon XL will continue with three familiar engine options on the offer. Base models will carry on with a 5.3-liter V8, which puts out around 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. For more ambitious drivers, there is a bigger and more capable 6.2-liter unit, which puts out around 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there is a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, which puts out around 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
All three engines come in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which does a pretty fine job. An RWD layout is standard, but you can also get a four-wheel drive in all variants.
2022 GMC Yukon XL Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2022 GMC Yukon XL will hit the market sometime late in the year, with a starting price of around 55.000 dollars. The Ford Expedition Max is a key competitor, while there are also models like Toyota Sequoia, as well as the corporal twin, Chevy Suburban.
