The well-known three-row SUV was discontinued after the 2020 model year and just a year later, we saw a new Journey. This time, things are completely different. While many reports were suggesting the possibility to see the 2022 Dodge Journey riding on the Giorgio platform, just like the new Grand Cherokee, that didn’t happen. The new generation didn’t come to North America at all. Instead, it is offered in Mexico and the latest reports suggest it could be offered in other Latin American countries as well, in the near future.
The new model doesn’t have anything in common with the previous generation. Instead, it is actually a rebadged version of the Chinese SUV called Trumpchi GS5. It is pretty much a re-badged version, with the same mechanics and largely same aesthetics.
2022 Dodge Journey Design
The new 2022 Dodge Journey is here and it features a completely different design compared to the previous generation. As we’ve just mentioned, it is pretty much a rebadged version of a Chinese model called Trumpchi GS5. Therefore, it doesn’t have much in common with Dodge engineering. Instead, it borrows technical solutions from the Chinese manufacturer.
Besides mechanics, the styling also has a lot of things in common with the Chinese version. The overall shape is pretty much the same, just like the proportions. This is a typical compact crossover, which measures 106.7 inches in wheelbase and nearly 185 inches in total length. The main difference is at the front. The Journey features a new face, characterized by a different grille, different bumper design etc.
The 2022 Dodge Journey is available in the following colors: Bright Cooper, Bright Blue, Granite, Bright White, Glossy Black and Silver.
Interior
On the inside, you can find a modern and attractive-looking interior design. The dashboard combines attractive lines with modern tech features, while the materials are pretty nice as well. Of course, the dash is highlighted by a nicely designed center stack, which includes an 8-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster and a single row of physical buttons for climate controls and similar things.
The front seats are massive and supportive, while the second row accommodates adults with ease as well. The cargo area offers decent capacity too.
Trim Levels
The 2022 Dodge Journey is offered in three trim levels. The base model wears the well-known SXT badge and comes standard with an 8-inch infotainment screen, 7-inch instrument screen, complete LED lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, hill descent control, parking sensors etc.
The mid-range Journey Sport adds a couple of driver-assistance features, such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and 360-degree camera, as well as convenience features like heated and ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof etc.
Finally, there is the GT trim, which adds goodies like 19-inch wheels, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, power tailgate, automatic high beams, air ionizer etc.
2022 Dodge Journey Engine
Under the hood, the 2022 Dodge Journey continues with a single powertrain option on the offer. That is a small 1.5-liter turbo-four engine, which features a max output of 169 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to provide decent performance. Also, the engine comes in pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission from Aisin, which does a pretty good job.
Besides decent performances, the engine offers pretty good fuel economy, which goes around 33 miles per gallon in a combined ride.
2022 Dodge Journey Pricing
The 2022 Dodge Journey is currently available in Mexico, where its price starts at Mex$ 567.900, for the base SXT trim. The mid-range Sport trim starts at around Mex$ 628.900, while the range-topping GT is available at Mex$ 659.900.
