According to the latest reports, the Bavarian carmaker won’t give from the new flagship model, which is about to give a coupe treatment to the X7 full-size SUV. Of course, we are talking about the X8 model and from what we know so far, this will be the most powerful BMW ever. Naturally, we are talking about the M-badged model, which will represent the range-topping version of the new model. At this point, we are still waiting for the details from the officials but it looks pretty much for sure that the 2022 BMW X8 M will come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The new SUV will combine the well-known 4.4-liter V8 with an electric motor but that won’t be the only upgrade to come. This version will get a typical M treatment, which will include significant upgrades, whether it’s about mechanics or aesthetics.
We expect that the 2022 BMW X8 M will hit the market by the end of the year.
2022 BMW X8 M Engine
Of course, the most interesting aspect of the 2022 BMW X8 M will be its powertrain. At this point, we know for sure it will feature a hybrid powertrain. More precisely, we expect to see a plug-in hybrid setup, the same one that was presented in the XM concept recently. Moreover, this concept will serve as a basis for the new SUV in many other ways as well.
In any case, this powertrain is based on a well-known 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, which comes in pair with a single electric motor. The total output goes around 750 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque, which will be enough to move this huge SUV from zero to sixty in just 3 seconds, making it one of the quickest SUVs on the market. Details about the battery are still unknown but we expect it will be large enough to ensure around 30 miles of the all-electric range.
2022 BMW X8 M Design
The X8 will be an all-new model and, of course, the M model will feature the same base design. We are talking about the same mechanics as in the X7, which is based on the CLAR platform. Furthermore, we expect a lot of similarities in terms of aesthetics too, especially after the X7 receives a facelift. We presume that the new 2022 BMW X8 M will feature the same face and most of the overall shape, while the key difference will be in terms of the rear end design, which would come with a sloping roof and coupe-like layout.
Of course, you may also count on a typical M treatment for this particular version. This includes a lot of mechanical upgrades, starting from the suspension and brakes. Furthermore, there should be a lot of exclusive details that accentuate the model’s performance character. That means a completely new body kit, with new bumpers, side skirts, rear diffuser, wheels and many other things.
When it comes to the interior design, we expect to see the same dashboard as in the recently updated X7 model. The full-size SUV recently received a new dash, highlighted by massive screens, designed in the same fashion as in the iX model. So, you may count on a couple of integrated 12.3- and 15-inch screens, where the former works as an instrument cluster, while the latter is reserved for the infotainment system. The rest of the cabin hasn’t changed much from the pre-facelifted model, so the 2022 BMW X8 M interior shouldn’t bring bigger surprises either.
It will be pretty interesting to see the seating configuration. This SUV measures more than 122 inches and it could become the first coupe SUV to feature three rows of seats. We believe there’s plenty of room for the third row, though the headroom would probably be limited, due to the sloping roof design.
2022 BMW X8 M Release Date and Price
At this point, the officials are still quiet about the 2022 BMW X8 M but we believe it could come by the end of this year. When it comes to the price, we have no doubt it will go way over 150.000 dollars.
