The new generation of the full-size SUV is here and it comes with loads of novelties. Of course, some of the first things that come to mind are a new design, which brings new aesthetics, bigger size, more advanced technologies, lots of new features etc. Among them, another interesting novelty is a diesel version of the SUV. This one comes as 2021 GMC Yukon Diesel and it brings a completely new look at this model, making it more efficient than ever, though that wasn’t very hard.
Of course, the engine is a central point of this version, but a great thing to know is that the 2021 GMC Yukon Diesel comes with all the goodies that are offered in gasoline versions. This includes pretty much everything, including the luxurious Denali trim. Surprisingly or not, this model also comes with a diesel engine in the offer. We expect to see it on sale sometime in the second half of the year.
2021 GMC Yukon Diesel Engine
When it comes to the 2021 GMC Yukon Diesel specs, things are pretty familiar, as you may count on a familiar Duramax V6 engine, which features 3.0 liters in displacement. The numbers are also the same as in the new Sierra, which means that the max output goes around 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission and both 2WD and 4WD versions are available. At this point, details about 2021 GMC Yukon Diesel towing capacity are still unavailable.
Other than the new diesel version, the new Yukon will also carry on with two familiar gasoline unit, two large gasoline V8 engines. Of course, we are talking about well-known 5.3- and 6.2-liter units, which are good for 355 and 420 horsepower, respectively.
2021 GMC Yukon Diesel Design
Other than the engine, the 2021 GMC Yukon Diesel specs would be pretty much the same as for the rest of the lineup. This includes a completely new design, based on the new T1 platform, which brings notable weight savings and significant improvements in terms of the ride quality. Among many novelties, we should mention an independent rear suspension, which significantly improves driving experience and comfort.
When it comes to the styling, the new model sticks pretty close to the design of the new Sierra, at least when it comes to the front end. Another important thing to mention is that the new diesel engine will be available across the whole range of models, including the hi-end Denali trim. Like other versions under this badge, the 2021 GMC Yukon Denali Diesel will also come with significant modifications in terms of the styling, but keep in mind that the new model also comes with completely different dashboard design, compared to the rest of the lineup.
Interior
As we already mentioned, the new Yukon comes with different dashboard design, depending on the trim level. Most versions are characterized by a floating, tablet-like touchscreen, while Denali comes with a completely integrated unit, with a higher dashboard line.
These aesthetical novelties are really amazing, but where the new model really shines is interior space. Here, things are pretty much the same as in the new Tahoe. Compared to the previous generation, the new model is significantly longer, as it measures more than 120 inches in wheelbase. For comparison, that’s almost five inches more compared to the previous generation. As a result, the third-row legroom isn’t tight anymore but can accommodate adult passengers as well. The same thing goes for the cargo area, as the overall volume increases for quite an impressive 28.2 cubic feet. The long-wheelbase, XL version also gets an increase in these aspects, but this model was already pretty impressive in these things.
2021 GMC Yukon AT4 Diesel
Another big thing about the new 2021 GMC Yukon Diesel is that this engine will be available in the AT4 off-road model. The AT4 trim has been introduced across the whole range of GMC models, and now it’s Yukon’s turn. This is an off-road version, which comes with numerous modifications compared to the rest of the lineup. The first thing you’ll notice is a distinctive look, as this model comes with blacked grille, distinctive wheels and many other details that accentuate its rugged character.
More importantly, there are some pretty interesting mechanical upgrades, starting from an adjustable suspension. It allows you to set the ground clearance in a range of four inches. The 2021 GMC Yukon AT4 Diesel can go 2 inches higher compared to the standard model, which in practice means higher approach and departure angles. An electronic limited-slip differential and magnetorheological dampers are also on the list of standard features in this case.
Release Date and Price
We expect that the new model will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2020. When it comes to 2021 GMC Yukon Diesel price, base models should go around 55.000 dollars.
