A mid-size Land Rover Discovery Sport is under the reconstruction. Its bigger cousin, the 2020 Land Rover Discovery will come without changes. The mid-cycle update is expected in 2021 or 2022. Until then, we will see the same full-size 7-seat SUV. So, the premium model will cost over $50,000 and it comes with both diesel and petrol engines. Turbo- and superchargers are boosting the performance. The pair of V6 drivetrains are capable enough to create enough power to compete with rivals. The biggest novelty for the 2020 Season could be the PHEV system.

The 2020 Land Rover Discovery will bring a lot of fun, either you need it for highway runs or off-road adventures. It performs great in various terrains. Sleek design and a lot of technology are a few reasons you should go after the full-size SUV. It also offers seven seating spots. Ride quality, handling, and stability are more pros of this model. Add a towing capacity as another advantage. On the other hand, Land Rover is not selling its vehicles cheap. Besides the starting price, maintenance and fuel economy of a seven-seat SUV is not budget-friendly.

2020 Land Rover Discovery redesign

2020 Land Rover Discovery Engines

The 2020 Land Rover Discovery continues to use petrol and diesel engines, a pair of each. The base configuration combines a 2.0-liter drivetrain with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The four-cylinder unit is turbocharged and delivers 300 hp. However, it seems somehow small for a three-row SUV. The body is heavy, but it doesn’t slow down this tiny but explosive unit. A four-pot mill needs 7.5 seconds to reach 60 mph. A 3.0-liter engine is doing the same in 7 seconds. However, it offers 40 ponies more and its max speed is 135 mph. Supercharged unit is also adding 330 lb-ft of torque and returns 18 mpg combined.

Diesel units are creating more torque but less power compared to petrol siblings. A 2.0-liter turbodiesel is good for 140 horsepower. The same eight-speed automatic transmission forwards power to all wheels. Top speed is 128 mph (125 mph for a petrol engine), but this one needs more time to hit 60 mph. Two different configurations are available for a 3.0-liter V6 diesel powertrain. Depending on which you choose, you can get 255 hp or 305 hp. The more potent one sprints 0-60 mph in 7 seconds and achieves max speed of 130 mph.

Hybrid

Changes on the 2020 Land Rover Discovery could include a hybrid drivetrain. Some of the high-end Range Rover models will offer this kind of unit. So, the next 7-seat SUV could add the PHEV version to its lineup. This would heal one of the worst downside of Discovery – fuel economy. A V6 diesel returns 23 mpg, which is good for the class, but really bad for the overall budget. The premium variant, Land Rover Range Rover, which is also a 7-seater, comes with electric support for the 2.0-liter turbo-four unit. The company could carry over the PHEV system to the non-premium SUV with similar dimensions. The outputs are 400 hp and 470 lb-ft, while the Range Rover returns a much better fuel economy.

2020 Land Rover Discovery HSE, SVX, and Other Options

The base model of the 2020 Land Rover Discovery will be the S. It carries 19-inch alloy wheels and black-surround of grille bars. Door handles are in the color you pick for the body. Inside, cloth seats are there by default. Gosh, we spend $55,000 and leather seats are still optional. A 10-inch touchscreen and a six-speed audio system are part of the standard package.

The upper trim level is SE and it adds automatic wipers with the rain-sensitive system. Parking sensors are also there. Other notable upgrades are navigation and more speakers. Land Rover Discovery Landmark enlarges wheels as a part of the new exterior package. Meridian audio takes places. The most expensive versions are HSE. The standard model will come with keyless entry, a rearview camera, tailgate, and leather seats. Unique wheels and exterior details are unveiling the HSE Luxury model. It also adds adjustable interior light, electric moonroof, and Windsor leather seats.

After many speculations, we found out that the new Discovery SVX is not going to be part of the lineup. The company announced for 2019 season, but this SUV developed by Special Vehicle Operations division is yet to make a debut. The concept is adopted by Land Rover Range Rover, but the Discovery is not using it yet. Improved capabilities in every way would improve overall versatility. But sadly, we will have to wait until 2021 to see it happen.

2020 Land Rover Discovery Release Date and Price

The price of the 2020 Land Rover Discovery 7-seat SUV is going to be $56,000. That is $2,500 over the base package. The most expensive version is HSE Luxury that adds $15,000 to this price. Well, this is very expensive, and we can look for some alternatives in the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90. Still, these are smaller vehicles. Lexus LX is a premium SUV, while the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe can’t match the level of luxury of Land Rover’s 7-seat SUV.
