The major change for the new 2020 GMC Acadia seven-seat SUV will be the turbo-four engine. A mid-cycle refresh also brings some cosmetic updates. The current generation of the SUV is still capable to compete on the mid-size market. We used to see Acadia in the full-size class, but the last huge update in 2017 introduced this SUV to the new market. Now, the only larger unit by the GMC is Yukon, while Acadia’s smaller sibling is the compact Terrain crossover. The most notable rivals in this class are Toyota Highlander and Ford Explorer. You will see pretty much the same SUV with the Chevrolet badge on it (Traverse). However, Chevy’s model offers eight seating spots.

The 2020 GMC Acadia Denali is much closer to the premium tier. This version is packed with some luxurious stuff you can’t find elsewhere. However, the seven-seat SUV is also bringing the AT4 package for off-road adventures. Refresh of the GMC Acadia for the next season includes more works inside. Also, the colors for the new SUV are vivid. Dimensions remain the same, which means the same cargo space inside the cabin. The towing capacity of the standard setup is 4,000 pounds, although another 1,000 lbs are added with Trailering package. If the Acadia introduces a diesel engine, it will gain some extra towing capacity.

What’s New for the Mid-Size 7-Seat SUV?

The cosmetic update will create a more aggressive look for this SUV. The front fascia will introduce the new grille in combination with LED lamps and larger bumper. Of course, head- and taillights are getting the characteristic C-shape. Inside the cabin, you will find a wireless charging port as one of the most advanced updates. Also, there is an HD camera for the rear view. The rest of the SUV practically the same. Other changes include minor updates for the Denali trim, the new AT4 version, and finally, a turbocharged engine.

2020 GMC Acadia AT4 Package Boosts Off-Road Skills

Besides the premium Denali package, the new Acadia will get the AT4 treatment. The all-terrain suite is already available for the Sierra 1500 truck. For the SUV, designers prepared updates that will make the appearance more aggressive. Black chrome finishes are the highlight of this model. Dark colors are used for the exterior and contrasting details are making the 2020 GMC Acadia AT4 sportier. Well, we still don’t know what kind of other upgrades the 7-seat SUV will add for this package. Special all-terrain tires are there, wrapping unique black rims. Still, the company didn’t unveil if this version is going to use the new turbocharged engine, or an old, reliable V6.

A 2.0-liter Turbo-Four Engine Joins the Lineup

The new member of the drivetrain squad is a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4. It is the new unit in the GM family. This doesn’t mean the company is replacing any of the existing mills. So, the next season, the 2020 GMC Acadia will offer a naturally-aspirated four-pot powertrain, a V6, and a turbo-four. The upcoming drivetrain is capable to produce 230 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The SUV will also gain a boost for the gas mileage, which will be appreciated by the buyers. Furthermore, the new engine also comes with Active Fuel Management, which shuts down two cylinders to improve the fuel economy. So far, we know the SLT and Denali models will use this drivetrain.

Other two possibilities are either a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 195 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque, or the most powerful V6 with 310 hp. It is one of the class-leading numbers from such a unit. A six-speed automatic transmission is still there, although we thought it will be the first item on the replacement lists. If the GM deploy some newer gearbox, the 2020 GMC Acadia could boost its overall gas mileage and towing capacity. With only 4,000 pounds, it is not enough to beat the competition.

No Hybrid or Diesel for 2020 GMC Acadia

With the arrival of the new turbocharged petrol unit, it is clear that the company is not going to add a diesel engine any time soon. Well, in the future, Acadia could borrow a 2.8-liter Duramax unit from some other GM siblings. For now, it seems that the company is more open for the hybrid drivetrain. Still, the official info is still missing, so it is obvious the 2020 YM is not going to get such drivetrain either. At least we have a turbo engine.

The most exciting SUV in the lineup is the 2020 GMC Acadia Denali. With all the upgrades (and the price), we can say this is a luxury SUV. It is almost unchanged for the upcoming season. At the premiere of the new model, we could see chrome details on the exterior and more wood accents inside the cabin. The interior is also coming with premium audio and navigation as standard features. Denali model, with an AWD drive, will cost over $50,000. This version also offers more safety and driver assist options.

Dimensions and Cargo Space

Acadia is now a mid-size model. It was a full-size SUV until its second generation arrived. Now, it is 193.6 inches long vehicle, with a wheelbase of 112.5 in. That is enough for three rows of seats and seven seating spots. With all seats up, the 2020 GMC Acadia will offer 13 cubic feet of cargo space. By folding the third row, you will gain 29 cubic feet, and with all seats down, the volume expands to 79 cubic feet. First, two rows are pretty spacious, while the third one is suitable only for children.
